Proteomic and microscopic analysis of biofilms formed by Listeria monocytogenes 568.

Biofilm formation may be important in the colonization of the food-processing environment by the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes. Listeria monocytogenes 568 formed adherent multicellular layers on a variety of test surfaces following growth at 37 degrees C with multiple transfers of the test surface into fresh medium. Microscopic examination of these adherent layers suggest that the cells were surrounded by extracellular material.

Thermal stability: a means to assure tertiary structure in therapeutic proteins.

To be both safe and effective, a therapeutic product must have the correct chemical structure and be free of harmful contaminants. Structure in protein therapeutic products, however, implies not only the correct sequence of amino acids (primary structure) but also the proper folding of that amino acid chain in three-dimensional space (tertiary structure). This work is part of a general strategy to develop a battery of physico-chemical methods that could give assurances of structure (and hence function) in formulated therapeutic proteins in the absence of in vivo data.

Normal qualitative and quantitative Tc-99m sestamibi myocardial SPECT: spectrum of intramyocardial distribution during exercise and at rest.

Exercise myocardial perfusion imaging with Tc-99m sestaMIBI is routinely used to detect underlying coronary stenoses. Ischemia is diagnosed in regions that display decreased tracer uptake during exercise as compared to rest. Tc-99m sestaMIBI SPECT images of 42 healthy volunteers were assessed both qualitatively (tomographic slices) and quantitatively (sectored polar map) for potential sources of misinterpretation.
