Durum semolina spaghetti is known to have a low-moderate glycaemic index but the impact of various processing variables during the manufacture and cooking of pasta does affect pasta structure and potentially could alter starch digestion. In this study, several process variables were investigated to see if they can impact the in vitro starch digestion in spaghetti while also monitoring the pasta’s technological quality. Cooking time had a large impact on pasta starch digestion and reducing cooking from fully cooked to al dente and using pasta of very high protein content (17%), reduced starch digestion extent.

Childbirth is a stressful and physically painful event in a woman's life and aromatherapy is one of the most used non-pharmacological methods that is effective in reducing anxiety and perceived pain. This randomized controlled study aimed at determining the effect of neroli oil aromatherapy on anxiety and pain intensity perception in 88 women during labor, randomly assigned to either an intervention group ( = 44) or control group ( = 44). Anxiety and perceived pain were assessed through the visual analogue scale during the latent, early, and late active phases of labor.

The erythrocyte skeleton plays an essential role in determining the shape and deformability of the red cell. Disruption of the interaction between components of the red cell membrane skeleton may cause loss of structural and functional integrity of the membrane. Several observations based on studies in vitro strongly suggest that phosphorylation may modify interactions between proteins, leading to a reduced affinity.

This report represents an attempt to define the rate of beta-spectrin de novo mutations affecting mRNA accumulation in patients with hereditary spherocytosis (HS). 19 HS children with haematologically normal parents and varying degrees of spectrin deficiency were studied. 13 of the 19 cases who were heterozygous at the genomic level for polymorphisms in the beta-spectrin coding region were further studied.
