Antitumor activity of a small-molecule inhibitor of the histone kinase Haspin.

The approval of histone deacetylase inhibitors for treatment of lymphoma subtypes has positioned histone modifications as potential targets for the development of new classes of anticancer drugs. Histones also undergo phosphorylation events, and Haspin is a protein kinase the only known target of which is phosphorylation of histone H3 at Thr3 residue (H3T3ph), which is necessary for mitosis progression. Mitotic kinases can be blocked by small drugs and several clinical trials are underway with these agents.

P2X(5) and P2X(7) receptors in human warts and CIN-612 organotypic raft cultures of human papillomavirus infected keratinocytes.

Purinergic receptors, which bind adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP), are expressed on human cutaneous keratinocytes and in squamous cell carcinomas. Studies on normal human epidermis and primary keratinocyte cultures have suggested that P2X(5) receptors are likely to be involved in keratinocyte differentiation and P2X(7) receptors are likely to be part of the machinery of end stage terminal differentiation/apoptosis of keratinocytes. P2X(7) receptor agonists can significantly reduce primary keratinocyte cell numbers in culture.

Fracture rate in children with cerebral palsy.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of previous fracture, the rate of fracture over time and associated risk factors for fracture in children with moderate or severe cerebral palsy (CP).

Study Design: Three hundred and sixty-four children with moderate-to-severe motor impairment (Gross Motor Function Classification System III, IV and V) enrolled in a multi-centre, region-based longitudinal study of growth, nutrition and health. Of these, 297 had baseline fracture information and 261 children had at least one follow-up assessment.
