Antimicrob Steward Healthc Epidemiol
April 2024
A pharmacist-driven protocol for methicillin-resistant nares screening and empiric vancomycin discontinuation was instituted in a community healthcare system utilizing a tele-antimicrobial stewardship program to reduce inappropriate use of vancomycin. The protocol and associated intervention resulted in a significant decrease in both vancomycin utilization and the rate of acute kidney injury.

Methods: A telehealth-based ASP was implemented in 2 community hospitals (285 and 176 beds). Local pharmacists without residency or prior antimicrobial stewardship training were trained to conduct prospective audit and feedback.
A new experimental setup has been developed to enable in situ studies of catalyst surfaces during chemical reactions by means of surface x-ray diffraction (SXRD) and grazing incidence small angle x-ray scattering. The x-ray reactor chamber was designed for both ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV) and reactive gas environments. A laser beam heating of the sample was implemented; the sample temperature reaches 1100 K in UHV and 600 K in the presence of reactive gases.
