Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-1 (TIMP-1) is a physiologic inhibitor of the matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), but little is known about the role of TIMP-1 in regulating the pathogenesis of influenza A virus (IAV) infection. Here, we performed both in vivo and in vitro experiments to investigate the regulation and function of TIMP-1 during IAV infection. Specifically, plasma levels of TIMP-1 are significantly increased in human subjects and wild-type (WT) mice infected with 2009 H1N1 IAV compared with levels in uninfected controls.

Here we dissect the heterogeneity in metastasis-associated astrocytes using scRNAseq and report a population that blocks the antitumoral activity of infiltrating T cells. This pro-tumoral activity is mediated by the secretion of TIMP1 from a cluster of pSTAT3+ astrocytes that acts on CD63+ CD8+ T cells to modulate their function.

Why would a mature brain need such a large number of OPCs? New myelination is possibly required for higher-order functions such as cognition and learning.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA 'Direct to Psychology Insomnia' pathway was developed for implementation within a multidisciplinary sleep disorders service in a tertiary hospital in Brisbane, Australia. The project was informed by implementation science principles and methodology to re-design the model of care (MoC). A consensus group workshop using the Nominal Group Technique (NGT) with 12 multidisciplinary staff was undertaken to develop the new MoC.

Study Design: Prospective cohort study of women in the second or third trimester recruited at a tertiary center in Sydney, Australia. Demographic data and hemodynamic measurements using the USCOM were taken for all study participants at recruitment.
