Silibinin-Loaded Amphiphilic PLGA-Poloxamer Nanoparticles: Physicochemical Characterization, Release Kinetics, and Bioactivity Evaluation in Lung Cancer Cells.

Despite its potential against several carcinomas, the pharmacological efficacy of silibinin (SLB) is hampered by poor solubility, absorption, and oral bioavailability. To face these issues, we developed polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles (NPs) coated with hydrophilic polyethene oxide (PEO) for controlled and targeted SLB delivery. NPs were produced at two different SLB loadings and presented a spherical shape with smooth surfaces and stable size in water and cell culture medium.

Electroporation in Translational Medicine: From Veterinary Experience to Human Oncology.

Electroporation (EP) is a broadly accepted procedure that, through the application of electric pulses with appropriate amplitudes and waveforms, promotes the delivery of anticancer molecules in various oncology therapies. EP considerably boosts the absorptivity of targeted cells to anticancer molecules of different natures, thus upgrading their effectiveness. Its use in veterinary oncology has been widely explored, and some applications, such as electrochemotherapy (ECT), are currently approved as first-line treatments for several neoplastic conditions.

Oxidative stress, hyperactivation of compensatory mechanisms (unfolded protein response, UPR; nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2, Nrf2) and the stimulation of maladaptive response (inflammation/apoptosis) are interconnected pathogenic processes occurring during Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression. The neuroprotective ability of dietary Conjugated linoleic acid (CLAmix) in a mouse model of AlCl-induced AD was recently described but, the effects of AlCl or CLAmix intake on these pathogenic processes are still unknown. The effects of dietary AlCl or CLAmix - alone and in combination - were examined in the brain cortex of twenty-eight BalbC mice divided into 4 groups (n = 7 each).

An Overview of the Enhanced Effects of Curcumin and Chemotherapeutic Agents in Combined Cancer Treatments.

Due to the progressive ageing of the human population, the number of cancer cases is increasing. For this reason, there is an urgent need for new treatments that can prolong the lives of cancer patients or ensure them a good quality of life. Although significant progress has been made in the treatment of cancer in recent years and the survival rate of patients is increasing, limitations in the use of conventional therapies include the frequent occurrence of side effects and the development of resistance to chemotherapeutic agents.
