  • Disordered eating behaviors are prevalent among individuals with serious mental illnesses (SMI) like schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, prompting a study to explore factors influencing these eating patterns.
  • The study involved 28 semi-structured interviews from participants in Australia, Germany, and Austria, revealing three main themes linked to disordered eating: daily functioning impacts, disrupted physical hunger cues, and emotional hunger.
  • Findings suggest that interprofessional strategies addressing daily routines, hunger awareness, and emotional triggers are essential to mitigate disordered eating behaviors in people with SMI.
