Change in Klebsiella pneumoniae susceptibility profile after the arrival of ceftazidime-avibactam in an Argentinean intensive care unit: a new ecological landscape.

Objective: Ceftazidime-avibactam (CZA) is a good option for Gram-negative bacilli infections that produce carbapenemase Classes A (especially blaKPC) and D (blaOXA). However, it is unknown whether it would have an impact on metallo-β-lactamases (blaMBL) selection. The aim of the study was to compare carbapenem and CZA Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPN) susceptibility profiles for a period of two years following the introduction of CZA.

Co-integrate Col3m -harboring plasmids in clinical isolates from Argentina.

The first cases of in Argentina were detected in three (Pre) recovered from two hospitals in Buenos Aires city in 2013. The isolates were genetically related, but the plasmid profile was different. Here, we characterized the -harboring plasmids of the first three cases detected in Argentina.

[CHROMagar KPC. Comparison with the method proposed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC, USA) for rectal screening and evaluation of false positive results].

Eighty one rectal swabs (RS) were cultured on CHROMagar KPC and the CDC method. Of the 81 samples, 9 were positive for KPC-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae on CHROMagar KPC, and 6 for the CDC method. CHROMagar KPC had two false positive (FP) results: 1 K.

Inhibition of nucleoside transport by protein kinase inhibitors.

Recently we reported that the pyridinylimidazole class of p38 mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase inhibitors potently inhibited the facilitated transport of nucleosides and nucleoside analogs in K562 cells. These compounds competed with the binding of nitrobenzylthioinosine (NBMPR) to K562 cells, consistent with inhibition of the NBMPR-sensitive equilibrative transporter (ENT1). In this study we examined a large number of additional protein kinase inhibitors for their effects on nucleoside transport.
