Oral budesonide exerts local effects with negligible systemic glucocorticoid activity, due to rapid first-pass metabolism, therefore, could potentially be efficacious in preventing gastrointestinal (GI) acute GVHD (aGVHD). We explored the use of budesonide, added to posttransplant cyclophosphamide (PTCy), tacrolimus, and mycophenolate mofetil, for prevention of GI aGVHD after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (AHSCT) in a prospective observational study and treated 80 patients with a median age of 53 years (range 19-74). Results were compared with a publicly available CIBMTR dataset of 646 patients who received PTCy-based GVHD prophylaxis (CIBMTR Study # GV17-02) (control).

: The role of surgery in pancreatic metastases of renal cell carcinoma (PM_RCC) is highly controversial, particularly in the context of modern systemic therapies and the conflicting results of studies published so far. This study aims to explore a single surgical center experience (including mainly pancreatic resections) regarding the indications, the type of pancreatectomies, and early and long-term outcomes for PM_RCC. : The data of all patients with surgery for PM_RCC (from 1 January 2002 to 31 December 2023) were retrospectively assessed, and potential predictors of survival were explored.

Outcomes for patients with myeloid blast phase chronic myeloid leukemia (CML-MBP) are dismal, and no preferred chemotherapy regimen has been identified. Recent studies have suggested a higher response rate with administration of timed-sequenced regimens (TSR) (purine analog, high-dose cytarabine, anthracycline) in high-risk acute myeloid leukemia patients. We retrospectively evaluated outcomes of newly diagnosed CML-MBP patients consecutively treated at our institution with a TSR or standard-dose cytarabine and an anthracycline ("7 + 3") combined with a tyrosine-kinase inhibitor (TKI) between 2011 and 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • Blastoid variant-mantle cell lymphoma (BV-MCL) is a serious condition with no standard treatment, prompting a study of 17 patients at a medical institution from 2009 to 2023.
  • The study found that the overall response to initial treatment was 66.7%, but the overall survival rate after two years was only 62.5%, influenced by factors like type of therapy and genetic variations.
  • New BTK inhibitor therapies show promise for improving outcomes in these high-risk patients, especially for those without TP53 mutations.

Article Synopsis
  • Patients needing allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation have different chances of finding an 8/8 HLA-matched unrelated donor, which can be estimated using a Search Prognosis calculator.
  • The study aimed to see if a search algorithm could equalize transplant rates between patients with a high likelihood (>90%) and low likelihood (<10%) of finding a matched donor.
  • Out of 2225 enrolled patients, 1751 were evaluable for the study, and results indicated that 55% were Very Likely, 30% Less Likely, and 16% Very Unlikely to find a match, with a follow-up median
