Testing for Afirma in Thyroid Nodules with High-Risk Indeterminate Cytology (TIR3B): First Italian Experience.

A percentage of 15 to 30% of thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) is indeterminate, i.e., TIR3A and TIR3B according to the Italian consensus for thyroid cytology.

Inhibition of the aurora kinases suppresses in vitro NT2-D1 cell growth and tumorigenicity.

The aurora kinase family members, Aurora-A, -B, and -C (listed as AURKA, AURKB and AURKC respectively in the HUGO Database), are serine/threonine kinases involved in the regulation of chromosome segregation and cytokinesis, and alterations in their expression are associated with malignant cell transformation and genomic instability. Deregulation of the expression of the aurora kinases has been shown to occur also in testicular germ cell tumors (TGCTs) identifying them as putative anticancer therapeutic targets. We here evaluated the in vitro effects of MK-0457, an aurora kinases inhibitor, on cell proliferation, cell cycle, ploidy, apoptosis, and tumorigenicity on the TGCT-derived cell line NT2-D1.

[Efficacy of external conventional radiotherapy in short and long term control of acromegaly; a comparison with stereotactic irradiation].

Aims: The aim of this study was to follow up two groups of patients with active acromegaly, who underwent to external irradiation and radio-surgery and to value the efficacy of irradiation in the control of the growth of the adenoma, hypersecretion and incidence of adverse events.

Materials And Methods: In 2 groups of patients, (A) of 47 subjects treated with conventional irradiation at a dose of 45 Gy, (B) of 6 subjects irradiated with stereo taxis radiotherapy at a dose of 15-20 Gy, were evaluated GH, IGF1 levels and pituitary function at 2, 5, 10 and 15 years after treatment. A cerebral MRI scan with detailed study of the sellar region was performed every year.

The Molecular Constants of 12CH3I in the Ground and v6 = 1 Excited Vibrational State.

A set of 26 new measurements have been recorded by a Doppler-free double-resonance technique, with a relative accuracy of about 10(-8). These data are combined to previous FTIR measurements to refine the molecular constants of 12CH3I. All the available literature data have been revisited, a few assignments updated, and some frequencies changed according to new laser standards.
