Oxidative mechanisms in the granulocyte activity.

The bactericidal and bacteriolytic activity of the granulocyte occurs with the participation of some species of high oxidative potential such as singlet oxygen (1O2) and hydroxyl radical (.OH). These derive from the superoxide anion (O2-) produced by a pyridine nucleotide oxidising system, initiating phagocytosis.

Urinary excretion of vanyl-mandelic acid correlated with ischemic heart disease.

The concentration of vanyl-mandelic acid is analysed in the urine collected within 24 hours from normal subjects, from those with painful ischemic cardiopathy, infarction and post-infarction sequelae. Statistically significant results have been obtained only in infarction patients. The study of the concentration of vanyl-mandelic acid by age decades points to the increase of average values throughout life.

The erythrocyte cytochrome b5.

Cytochrome b5 was isolated from large volumes of human and pork erythrocytes. The present study shows that the absorbance spectra of the oxidized and reduced forms of the erythrocyte cytochrome b5, of the solubilized one and of that of microsomes are similar.

Relationship between neurotransmitters and atherosclerosis.

Dyslipemia and finally the producing of atherosclerosis signal some modulation disturbances in neurotransmitters by the onset of a permanent incapacity of the organism to coordinate the adapting mechanism against the over-high activity of stress factors. Neurotransmitters and related substances facilitate and modulate energy and information in biosystems, assigning an important role to central control as noradrenaline, serotonin and other biogenic amines mediate emotional stress.
