Analytical practice: do the new technologies have an impact?

Through commentary on four clinical vignettes, this article focuses on the anthropological transformations taking place in contemporary society, underlining their differences from the anthropologies of reference of the founding fathers of psychoanalysis. Hybridization between man and machine and the speeding up and alteration of communications which the new technologies promote are now crucial issues facing psychoanalysis. Social media and a 24/7 internet connection have produced deep changes in the way people live and perceive relationships.

Rehabilitative residential treatment in patients with severe mental disorders: personality features associated with short-term outcome.

The aims of this study were to evaluate the outcome of inpatients with severe psychiatric disorders after 6 months of multimodal residential treatment. Ninety-one subjects admitted to residential prolonged treatment at an Italian rehabilitative complex were included in the study. Within 6 months, the program of treatment was effective in reducing symptoms and improving the patients' psychosocial functioning.

[Application of the "Somatization Index" to a sample of soldiers in obligatory military service. Validation study].

One hundred and eighteen clinical records of soldiers attending the Psychological Unit of the Ospedale Militare "A. Riberi" in Turin were included in the study. Records assessed according to the "Somatization Index" and the scores obtained were analysed using statistical methods (t test) according to the following parameters: geographical origin of the family (North/South); place of residence (southern Italians resident in the South/southern Italians resident in the North, and rural/urban environment); educational level (5th class in primary school/upper secondary school).
