Slow sand filters (SSFs) for drinking water production are habitats for diverse microbes from multiple domains of life, which are integral to the ability of SSFs to purify water. While cultivation-independent analyses of the prokaryotic communities of SSFs have provided valuable insights, little attention has been paid to fungi inhabiting SSFs. This study characterized the fungal communities in the sand biofilm of one established, one inoculated and one non-inoculated SSF.

Background: Pediatric radiotherapy (RT) presents unique challenges due to the need for young patients to remain still during treatment, often in unfamiliar and intimidating environments. To achieve compliance and immobilization, many children, particularly those under six, are routinely administered general anesthesia (GA) or sedation, despite the associated risks and complications. These include respiratory and neurocognitive side effects, increased healthcare costs, and the strain on clinical resources.

ObjectiveEnzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) is the established method for detecting antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) in the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) but is labor-intensive compared with the newer automated chemiluminescent assay (CLIA). This study aims to evaluate CLIA versus ELISA for aPL, correlate each method with clinical manifestations and perform a comprehensive literature review.MethodsPatient samples were concurrently tested by ELISA (QUANTA Lite) and CLIA (ACL AcuStar) for anti-cardiolipin antibody (aCL) and anti-β2-glycoprotein-I (aβ2GPI) IgG and IgM.

Purpose: Women with a history of sexual trauma (ST) have heightened risk for postpartum psychopathology. Although ST increases risk for traumatic delivery and maternal psychopathology, knowledge of the functional connections among various psychiatric symptoms and complicated delivery remains limited.

Methods: We used regularized partial correlation networks to examine connections between symptoms of childbirth-related PTSD (CB-PTSD), depression, anxiety, somatization, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and complicated delivery (e.
