Remote ischemic preconditioning (RIPC) induces the expression of unidentified protective cytokines that mitigate lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (LIRI). This study hypothesizes that MOTS-c, a mitokine with potent protective effects against mitochondrial damage, contributes to RIPC-mediated protection by alleviating endothelial barrier dysfunction. In human lung transplantation patients, serum levels of MOTS-c significantly decreased following IR injury but were markedly increased when RIPC was performed prior to transplantation.

Somatic and genetic mutations in glutathione peroxidases (GPxs), including GPx7 and GPx8, have been linked to intellectual disability, microcephaly, and various tumors. GPx7 and GPx8 evolved the latest among the GPx enzymes and are present in the endoplasmic reticulum. Although lacking a glutathione binding domain, GPx7 and GPx8 possess peroxidase activity that helps the body respond to cellular stress.

Aim: To investigate the risk factors associated with frailty in older patients with ischaemic stroke, develop a nomogram and apply it clinically.

Design: A cross-sectional study.

Methods: Altogether, 567 patients who experienced ischaemic strokes between March and December 2023 were temporally divided into training (n = 452) and validation (n = 115) sets and dichotomised into frail and non-frail groups using the Tilburg Frailty Indicator scale.

Emerging evidence highlights certain long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) transcribed from or interacting with super-enhancer (SE) regulatory elements. These lncRNAs, known as SE-lncRNAs, are strongly linked to cancer and regulate cancer progression through multiple interactions with downstream targets. The expression of SE-lncRNAs is controlled by various transcription factors (TFs), and dysregulation of these TFs can contribute to cancer development.
