Background And Objectives: Mitochondrial disorders are multiorgan disorders resulting in significant morbidity and mortality. We aimed to characterize death-associated factors in an international cohort of deceased individuals with mitochondrial disorders.

Methods: This cross-sectional multicenter observational study used data provided by 26 mitochondrial disease centers from 8 countries from January 2022 to March 2023.

An update on ocular effects of antidiabetic medications.

The global increase in the prevalence of type 2 diabetes has led to the development and implementation of new classes of antidiabetic medications, introducing advanced therapeutic options for the management of the disease. These new medications, though primarily designed to regulate blood glucose levels, also have applications in weight management, potentially transforming the current approaches to diabetes treatment. Newer medications, however, have ophthalmic side effects with controversies in trials and real-life data.

Intercostal artery aneurysms are a type of vascular abnormality that poses a potential risk of rupture, which could lead to life-threatening hemothorax. This case report presents a young male who experienced a rupture of an intercostal artery aneurysm and subsequently suffered from a massive hemothorax after engaging in strenuous physical activity. The current case study sheds light on the difficulties and lessons learned in managing such cases in peripheral settings, including the dilemma of whether to insert an intercostal chest drain (ICD).

A Comprehensive Clinical Acumen Enhanced by Point-of-Care Ultrasonography in Managing Acute Life-Threatening Massive Pulmonary Thromboembolism in a Peripheral Setting: A Case Report.

Acute massive pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) is a potentially life-threatening condition requiring urgent management to decrease mortality. However, in the peripheral setting, managing the emergency can be challenging. We report a case of massive PTE presenting with cardiopulmonary arrest, successfully managed with advanced cardiac life support, early initiation of anticoagulants (heparin), and thrombolytics.

Consolidated Newborn Bloodspot Screening Efforts in Developing Countries in the Asia Pacific-2024.

Approximately half of all births globally occur in the Asia Pacific Region. Concerted efforts to support local activities aimed at developing national newborn screening (NBS) have been ongoing for almost 30 years, first by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and then through volunteer efforts. Sustainable newborn bloodspot screening (NBS) continues to be initiated and develop in many of the countries with developing economies in the region.
