Remarkable advances in high-throughput sequencing have enabled major biological discoveries and clinical applications, but achieving wider distribution and use depends critically on further improvements in scale and cost reduction. Nanopore sequencing has long held the promise for such progress, but has had limited market penetration. This is because efficient and accurate nanopore sequencing of nucleic acids has been challenged by fundamental signal-to-noise limitations resulting from the poor spatial resolution and molecular distinction of nucleobases.

Latitudinal clines in the phenology of floral display associated with adaptive evolution during a biological invasion.

Premise: Flowering phenology strongly influences reproductive success in plants. Days to first flower is easy to quantify and widely used to characterize phenology, but reproductive fitness depends on the full schedule of flower production over time. We investigated flowering schedules in relation to the onset and duration of flowering and tested for latitudinal clines in schedule shape associated with rapid evolution and range expansion of an invasive plant.

Heteranthery, the occurrence of functionally and structurally distinct stamens within a flower, represents a striking example of convergent evolution among diverse animal-pollinated lineages. Although the ecological basis of this somatic polymorphism is understood, the developmental and molecular mechanisms are largely unknown. To address this knowledge gap, we selected Monochoria elata (Pontederiaceae) as our study system due to its typical heterantherous floral structure.

Posttraumatic Stress Symptoms Moderate the Relationship Between Chronic Pain and Adverse Cannabis Outcomes: A Pilot Study.

Objective: Increasingly, cannabis is being prescribed/used to help manage posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS) or chronic pain, as cannabis has been argued to be beneficial for both types of symptoms. However, the evidence on efficacy is conflicting with evidence of risks mounting, leading some to caution against the use of cannabis for the management of PTSS and/or chronic pain. We examined the main and interactive effects of PTSS and chronic pain interference on adverse cannabis outcomes (a composite of cannabis use levels and cannabis use disorder, CUD, symptoms).

Pavlovian conditioning with the internal stimulus effects of intravenous nicotine heightens later nicotine taking with variation by dose and sex.

We have previously demonstrated that the interoceptive stimulus effects of intravenous nicotine (0.03 mg/kg/inf) can acquire conditioned reinforcing value through appetitive Pavlovian conditioning. In this report, we replicate and extend that work by examining the dose- and sex-generality of this effect.
