Deep brain stimulation in pediatric populations: A scoping review of the clinical trial landscape.

Objective: There has been rapid advancement in the development of deep brain stimulation (DBS) as a treatment option for adults for neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions. Here, we present a scoping review of completed and ongoing clinical trials focused on DBS in pediatric populations, highlighting key knowledge gaps.

Experiences of caregivers of children with severe self-injurious behavior: An interpretive, descriptive study.

Aim: To describe the experiences of children with self-injurious behavior (SIB) through the lens of family caregivers to inform the development of relevant interventions.

Method: SIB in children with autism spectrum disorder is challenging to understand and manage. Furthermore, our understanding of the impact of SIB on families is limited.

Hemispherectomy at The Hospital for Sick Children: expanded indications and lessons learned over 35 years.

Objective: Functional hemispherectomy is an effective surgical intervention for select patients with drug-resistant epilepsy. The last several decades have seen dramatic evolutions in preoperative evaluation, surgical techniques, and postoperative care. Here, the authors present a retrospective review of the medical records of 146 children who underwent hemispherectomy between 1987 and 2022 at The Hospital for Sick Children, providing a unique overview of the evolution of the procedure and patient outcomes over 35 years.
