The outcome of sternal wire removal on persistent anterior chest wall pain after median sternotomy.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of wire removal on a consecutive series of patients with persistent anterior chest wall pain after median sternotomy.

Methods: Ninety-five patients receiving sternal wire removal during the period January 1994-October 2001 were included in a follow-up study. Preoperative data, data from the primary operation, the postoperative course, and the sternal wire removal were collected from patient histories.

[Self-expanding nitinol stents in the treatment of tracheobronchial stenoses].

Introduction: Several types of metal stents are available for the treatment of tracheobronchial stenosis. They can be self-expanding, balloon expandable, covered with a silicone membrane or uncovered. We have used a new self-expanding tracheobronchial nitinol wire stent since 1998, and our results are presented below.

During the last 50 years, the 5-year survival of lung cancer patients has been unchanged at 5%. As the prognosis for patients with operable nonsmall cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is much better, the diagnostic examination of tumour suspicious lesions with secondary judgement of operability in NSCLC is an important subject. This study focuses on the diagnostic process.
