Perioperative versus postoperative calcium and vitamin D supplementation to prevent symptomatic hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy: a randomized placebo controlled trial.

Background: Hypocalcemia is the most common complication following total thyroidectomy. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of perioperative combined calcium and vitamin D supplementation compared to postoperative combined calcium and vitamin D supplementation in reducing symptomatic hypocalcemia.

Materials And Methods: A prospective randomized placebo-controlled trial was carried out in patients undergoing total or completion thyroidectomy from June 2017 to May 2022.

Background: Medication organisation devices (MODs) provide compartments for a patient's medication to be organised into the days of the week and the recommended times the medication should be taken.

Aim: To define the optimal trial design for testing the clinical effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of MODs.

Objective: To determine the correlation of bone mineral density (BMD) in lumbar spine, proximal femur and 1/3 radius in northern Thai women.

Materials And Method: The data of this study was collected from the medical records and the BMD results of 885 perimenopausal and postmenopausal women who had the BMD measurement in Division of Nuclear Medicine, Department of Radiology, Faculty of Medicine, Chiang Mai University between January and December 2007. BMD was measured using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (Hologic, QDR-4500C).
