Article Synopsis
  • Oil palm is a critical oil crop, with Colombia being the fourth largest producer, primarily using interspecific hybrids (OxG) for production.
  • Conventional breeding takes a long time (up to 20 years) to develop new varieties, making genomic selection (GS) a promising alternative for faster and improved breeding results.
  • The study evaluated various traits in hybrids and backcrosses, finding that GS models showed better prediction accuracies for certain traits, indicating the importance of genetic correlations and the potential for GS in selecting superior parent lines for oil palm breeding.

Background: Skin-to-skin contact (SSC) compared to separation at birth has a positive effect on breastfeeding. However, separation at birth is common with negative impact on breastfeeding. The aim was to determine the effect of immediate SSC compared to early SSC on the duration of exclusive breastfeeding.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on the Elaeis genus, specifically the economic significance of two species important for the oil palm industry: Elaeis oleifera and Elaeis guineensis, investigating an interspecific hybrid population for beneficial traits.
  • - Through genotyping-by-sequencing, researchers identified 3,776 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and conducted a genome-wide association analysis for various agronomic traits in the hybrid population.
  • - The findings highlight specific genomic regions linked to candidate genes influencing plant structure and yield, paving the way for future research and marker-assisted selection in oil palm breeding.

The effect of cannabis on emotional processing was investigated using event-related potential paradigms (ERPs). ERPs associated with emotional processing of cannabis users, and non-using controls, were recorded and compared during an implicit and explicit emotional expression recognition and empathy task. Comparisons in P3 component mean amplitudes were made between cannabis users and controls.
