Dr. Joan Venes (1935-2010) is a well-respected pioneer of pediatric neurosurgery. She was the third board-certified female neurosurgeon in the United States and was the first female neurosurgery resident to be accepted by her residency program at Yale University.

Novel cardiac CT method for identifying the atrioventricular conduction axis by anatomic landmarks.

Patient-reported outcome and preference after craniotomy and laser interstitial thermal therapy ablation: a pilot study.

Objective: Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive procedure that allows cytoreduction of brain tumors and can be considered as an alternative to craniotomy. The authors surveyed 27 patients who underwent both craniotomy and LITT during distinct stages of their oncology journey to assess patient-reported outcomes comparing both procedures.

Methods: A 9-question survey was developed and validated to assess patient-reported postoperative recovery, pain level, narcotic use, and procedure preference.

Laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive modality for addressing intracranial pathology. LITT is recognized as a primary therapeutic option for a range of intracranial pathologies, particularly in inaccessible lesions. In the present study, we systematically review the evidentiary base supporting contemporary applications of LITT.
