Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) poses significant challenges in veterinary medicine, with limited treatment options and poor survival rates. While substantial progress has been made in characterizing human AML, translating these advancements to veterinary practice has been hindered by limited molecular understanding and diagnostic tools. The case study presented illustrates the application of whole genome sequencing in diagnosing AML in a dog, showcasing its potential in veterinary oncology.

Do Computerized Tomography Scans Change Management in Carpometacarpal Dislocations and Fracture-Dislocations?

Background: Concomitant carpal injuries with dislocations and fracture-dislocations of the carpometacarpal joints (CMCD/FD) are often hard to see on plain radiographs, making advanced imaging a useful diagnostic adjunct. We aim to: (1) characterize bony injury patterns with CMCD/FD; and (2) determine the frequency that preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans change surgical management.

Methods: A retrospective review was performed of patients who underwent operative fixation of CMCD/FD from 2006 to 2021.

Formation of an inferior epigastric artery pseudoaneurysm can be seen following surgical intervention and is more common after laparoscopy. A sixty-eight-year-old male presented with a right upper quadrant bulge at his incision site two months following laparoscopic appendectomy.

Rare Rupture of Small 4.3 cm Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common medical condition with the feared, and often fatal, complication of rupture. The risk of rupture has been well documented to correlate with aneurysm size. It is exceedingly rare for an AAA less than 5 cm to rupture.

Teaching Small Bite Fascial Closure Technique: Improved Accuracy and Consistency Through Simulation.

Despite evidence that small bite closure is beneficial, it is not well documented how accurately and consistently surgeons employ this technique. We created a felt model to simulate fascial closure and educate residents regarding small bites. This study aims to gauge accuracy and consistency of bite size in fascial closure and assess if utilizing a templated model could improve technique.
