Exposure to winter cold causes an increase in energy demands to meet the challenge of thermoregulation. In small rodents, this increase in cardiac output leads to a profound cardiac hypertrophy, 2-3 times that typically seen with exercise training. The nature of this hypertrophy and its relevance to winter mortality remains unclear.

The purpose of this study was to provide an update of the current literature since the conducted search used in the publication of Medina et al on May 3, 2013, to evaluate (1) the frequency of vascular and neurologic injury after KD, (2) the frequency with which surgical intervention was conducted for vascular injury in this setting, and (3) the frequency with which each imaging modality was used to detect vascular injury.
Methods: A two-author screening process was conducted in accordance with Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines using the MEDLINE database.
A patient with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) had persistent, progressive pneumonia with viremia after 5 months of infection despite monoclonal antibodies, intravenous (IV) remdesivir and prolonged oral steroids. Twenty days of nirmatrelvir/ritonavir and 10 days of IV remdesivir led to full recovery.

In the rare cases presented of young patients with CPPD, genetic predisposition or related metabolic conditions were almost always identified.
Case Summary: The authors report the case of a 9-year-old boy with no past medical history who presented with acute knee pain and swelling after a cat scratch injury 5 d prior.
Background: Total joint replacements are some of the most common procedures performed by surgeons. There has been a recent increase to transition these procedures to the outpatient setting.
Objective: Our study seeks to identify the most influential publications, in terms of total citations, regarding outpatient total hip and knee replacement surgeries.
