Article Synopsis
  • The text discusses two cases of patients with retrohepatic inferior vena cava (IVC) injuries, highlighting the complex surgical interventions they underwent after sustaining traumatic injuries.* -
  • The first patient was a 79-year-old woman with stab wounds, while the second was a 25-year-old man with blunt abdominal trauma, illustrating different surgical challenges and techniques used to address their respective injuries.* -
  • The conclusion emphasizes the high mortality rate associated with IVC injuries and the importance of experienced surgical management, particularly in identifying and addressing these injuries in trauma cases.*

Background: Mortality in patients with severe sepsis remains high despite the development of several therapeutic strategies. The aim of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was to evaluate whether homeopathy is able to influence long-term outcome in critically ill patients suffering from severe sepsis.

Methods: Seventy patients with severe sepsis received homeopathic treatment (n = 35) or placebo (n = 35).

Article Synopsis
  • Rheological abnormalities in patients with peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) may influence restenosis after femoropopliteal percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA).
  • In a study of 114 patients, higher baseline plasma viscosity and lower platelet count were linked to a greater risk of restenosis within 12 months post-procedure.
  • Key factors identified as contributing to restenosis included increased plasma viscosity, low platelet count, longer lesion length, and the absence of hypertension.

Introduction: The risk of recurrence in patients with symptomatic deep venous thrombosis (DVT) is higher in patients with persistent risk factors than in patients with transient risk factors. The purpose of this prospective study was to investigate the course of rheological variables in patients with DVT up to 1 year after the acute event in relation to risk factors.

Patients And Methods: In 37 patients with proven DVT plasma fibrinogen, plasma viscosity, red cell aggregation, whole blood viscosity, hematocrit and platelet aggregation were studied in the acute phase, at 6 weeks and at 12 months.
