Background: Hip dislocations after total hip arthroplasty (THA) are a debilitating complication, often occurring in deep flexion. Current 3D modelling allows for simulating the flexion angle at which bone-on-bone impingement occurs, but it is resource-intensive and not widely available for routine clinical use. Therefore, we propose the ilio-femoral impingement angle (IFIa) as a novel, simple radiographic measure to help identify patients at higher risk for dislocation using standard radiographs.

Background: Mortality rates following total hip arthroplasty (THA) and total knee arthroplasty (TKA) arthroplasty display distinct temporal patterns often attributed to patient selection bias, perioperative optimization, and comorbidities. Understanding these mortality patterns is essential for epidemiological and health economic longitudinal modeling.

Methods: We conducted a national registry-based cohort study in Australia using data from 1999 to 2022, examining primary and revision THA and TKA procedures for osteoarthritis.

Background: Ultra-congruent (UC) polyethylene liners are designed to add additional anterior-posterior stability in primary total knee arthroplasties (TKAs), compensating for actual or potential posterior cruciate ligament incompetence, somewhat like a posterior-stabilized knee. The literature supports patella resurfacing in primary posterior-stabilized compared to cruciate-retaining (CR) TKA due to higher revision rates with nonresurfaced patella. However, it is unclear if UC liners alter patella-related revisions.
