Occurrence of ultrasonographic assessed placental abnormalities, treatments, pregnancy outcome, and subsequent fertility on a large warmblood stud farm: A retrospective field study.

Little is known about the incidence and outcome of high-risk pregnancies in equine practice and clinical studies on spontaneous occurring placentitis cases and treatments are missing. Therefore, the aims of this retrospective field study were to (1) describe the incidence and severity of ultrasonographic assessed placental abnormalities (UPA) in 4,192 pregnancies on a large commercial warmblood stud farm in 2017 - 2019 and (2) characterize these UPA cases and their pregnancy outcome. UPA severity (Placental abnormality score (PSc) 1-3; low to high), nine treatment regimens (TM1-9) used in UPA cases and treatment duration as well as subsequent fertility were analyzed in the group of UPA mares.

Success rates and factors influencing pregnancy outcome after 464 transvaginal ultrasound-guided twin reductions in the mare.

Background: Transvaginal ultrasound-guided aspiration (TUA) is used for post-fixation twin reduction in mares. However, there is limited information regarding factors that influence pregnancy outcome after TUA.

Objectives: To evaluate the effect of day of gestation on which TUA is performed, aspiration volume, puncture of the conceptus, medication administered before and after TUA, embryo location, mare age and parity and operator experience on pregnancy and foaling rates after TUA.

Expert opinions on success factors for upper-limb prostheses.

The goal of this study was to gather the opinions of prosthetics experts on the most important factors for the successful use of upper-limb (UL) prostheses, compare them with those of prosthesis users, and ultimately direct research efforts in this field. UL prosthetics experts were asked to compare the importance of the comfort, function, and cosmesis of a prosthetic device for a transhumeral amputee. Categories were subdivided into weight, socket-interface comfort, power, agility, color, and shape.

Histopathological and immunohistochemical investigations of hepatic lesions associated with congenital portosystemic shunt in dogs.

Canine livers with congenital portosystemic shunt were investigated histopathologically and immunohistochemically before and 8-272 days after partial ligation of the shunt. Lesions included hypoplasia of portal veins, arteriolar and ductular proliferation, lymphangiectasis, mild to moderate fibrosis, fatty cysts, and mostly mild hepatocellular damage with frequent atrophy and steatosis, regardless of the location of the shunting vessel. Perisinusoidal hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) in normal canine liver expressed alpha-smooth muscle actin (alpha-SMA), but no desmin.
