Complete characterization of the genetic effects on gene expression is needed to elucidate tissue biology and the etiology of complex traits. In the present study, we analyzed 2,344 subcutaneous adipose tissue samples and identified 34,774 conditionally distinct expression quantitative trait locus (eQTL) signals at 18,476 genes. Over half of eQTL genes exhibited at least two eQTL signals.

Background: Early-life trauma (before age 18) is hypothesized to increase risk for adverse pregnancy outcomes through stress pathways, yet epidemiologic findings are mixed.

Methods: Sister Study participants (U.S.

Objectives: Temocillin is a β-lactam antibiotic used for preventing or treating bacterial infections in liver-transplanted children. We characterized its pharmacokinetics in plasma and ascitic fluid and proposed dosing regimens that maximize achievement of effective drug exposures in this patient group.

Methods: Patients aged 6-36 months received 25 mg/kg/12h (n=14) or 25 mg/kg/8h (n=23).

Background: Alabama has the second highest rate of cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality of any US state and a high prevalence of CVD risk factors such as hypertension, diabetes, obesity, and smoking. Within the state, there are disparities in CVD outcomes and risk factors by race or ethnicity and geography. Many primary care practices do not have the capacity for full-scale quality improvement (QI) initiatives.

Article Synopsis
  • Ventriculitis in critically ill neurocritical care patients increases the risk of complications and death, prompting a need for improved antibiotic dosing strategies.
  • The study aimed to create a population pharmacokinetic (PK) model for piperacillin-tazobactam (PTZ) by analyzing samples from neurosurgical patients to determine effective dosing for cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) treatment.
  • Results showed significant inter-individual variability in drug penetration into CSF, making it difficult to recommend optimal dosing regimens despite some patients achieving high plasma drug levels.
