Waveguide evanescent field fluorescence microscopy (WEFF) is an evanescent-based microscopy that utilizes a confined thin film of light, around 100 nm, to image the plasma membrane of cells attached to a waveguide. Low photobleaching and low background besides its high axial resolution allows time-lapse imaging to investigate changes in cell morphology in the presence or absence of chemical agents. Both large field of view (FOV) and uniform illumination are very important while imaging cell-substrate contacts with an evanescent field.

Introduction: Venous leg ulcers (VLU) are the most severe manifestation of venous insufficiency and carry a poor prognosis because of delayed healing and recurrent ulceration. Pentoxifylline (PTX) is an example of a vasoactive medication that can be used alongside compression therapy to help improve ulcer healing rates. A previous review highlighted improved healing of VLU with PTX, although no analysis was made for complete ulcer healing and recurrence following treatment.

This study addresses the critical gap in understanding the ovarian lipidome's abundance, distribution, and vulnerability to environmental disruptors, a largely unexplored field. Leveraging the capabilities of matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI MSI), we embarked on a novel exploration of the ovarian lipidome in both mouse and human healthy tissues. Our findings revealed that the obesogenic chemical tributyltin (TBT), at environmentally relevant exposures, exerts a profound and region-specific impact on the mouse ovarian lipidome.
