Sporadic non-toxic goitre (SNG) is defined as thyroid enlargement in a euthyroid patient living in an area without endemic goitre. Because thyroid hormone function is within the reference range, the main problems are the signs of thyroid enlargement, thus reducing the size of the goitre is undoubtedly the primary goal of therapy. Although SNG is a common disease, there is no single optimal management of treatment strategy.

This paper overviews the incidence, aetiology, clinical signs and complications of hyperthyroidism in cats as well as the contribution of nuclear medicine in the diagnosis and management of this veterinary disease. Thyroid gland scintigraphy is of particular value in detecting autonomic adenoma in occult cases of fenile hyperthyroidism (FH), particularly when hormone tests are doubtful or conflicting. Also, thyroid scintigraphy is useful in detecting the shape of the thyroid gland, hyperfunctioning accessory or ectopic thyroid tissue, multi-nodular goitre and unilateral or bilateral cold lesions.

Heat-induced lesions in miners are characterized by syndrome of vegetovascular dysfunction presenting with a damage to the segmental and suprasegmental structures of the vegetative nervous system, worsening of the bodily heat status, decrement of physical performance. A distinguishing feature of vegetovascular dystonia in acute overheating is activation of sympathicus, while in chronic one that of parasympathicus. By patterns of function disorders and degree of their restoration acute overheating can be categorized into the following forms-mild, moderately severe and severe ones.

The authors analyzed morbidity and invalidity in miners engaged in liquidation of Chernobyl disaster sequels depending on the duration of stay in increased radiation background, radiation dose, length of work in the mines. Among the nosological entities prevailed vegeto-vascular dystonia, thyroid and gastrointestinal pathology.
