Profiling Communication Ability in Dementia: Validation of a new cognitive-communication assessment tool.

Background: Individuals with dementia have communication limitations resulting from cognitive impairments that define the syndrome. Whereas there are numerous cognitive assessments for individuals with dementia, there are far fewer communication assessments. The Profiling Communication Ability in Dementia (P-CAD) was developed to address this gap.

Topology in many-body physics usually emerges as a feature of equilibrium quantum states. We show that topological fingerprints can also appear in the relaxation rates of open quantum systems. To demonstrate this we consider one of the simplest models that has two topologically distinct phases in its ground state: the Kitaev chain model for the p-wave superconductor.

Xylopyranose is the principal monosaccharide unit of hemicellulose, one of the three major biopolymers of lignocellulosic biomass. Understanding its decomposition mechanism is increasingly relevant for thermochemical biorefinery research such as pyrolysis. Significant efforts have been made to study its chemical and structural properties using both computational and experimental methods.
