Lactation initiates with a massive Ca secretion into milk. Within 24-48 h post-calving, high-producing, older-parity dairy cows are highly susceptible to Ca disturbances. We hypothesized that the abrupt cessation of milking within this critical period would delay Ca secretion into milk, allowing lactating cows more time to stabilize their Ca homeostasis mechanisms and potentially lower the risk of blood Ca decline in the immediate postpartum period.

Importance: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) among surgeons are markedly increasing. Several proposed interventions to reduce WMSDs among surgeons have been studied, but few follow an occupational therapy-oriented approach addressing biomechanical, psychophysical, and psychosocial risk factors.

Objective: To design, implement, and assess the potential of the Comprehensive Operating Room Ergonomics (CORE) program for surgeons, a holistic evidence-based ergonomics and wellness intervention grounded in occupational therapy principles.

Using a three-dimensional model of cell monolayers, we study the spatial organization of active as the monolayer transitions from a solid to a liquid state. The critical exponents that characterize this transition map the isotropic stress percolation onto the two-dimensional random percolation universality class, suggesting short-range stress correlations near this transition. This mapping is achieved via two distinct, independent pathways: (i) cell-cell adhesion and (ii) active traction forces.

Background: Efficient utilization of the operating room (OR) is essential. Inefficiencies are thought to cause preventable delays. Our goal was to identify OR incidents causing delays and estimate their impact on the duration of various general surgery procedures.
