Medical expert reports in occupational health: a bibliographic review.

Forensic medicine is a branch of medicine located within both the health and law domains that contributes in issues that include civil, criminal, and labor law. Within labor law, medical expert reports aim to evaluate the capacity of workers and ensure them their rights and duties. This study aimed to discuss the information available on the scientific literature regarding expert reports in occupational health.

An unusual variant of atrophic dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans.

Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans is an uncommon neoplasm that is most often seen in young adults. The most common clinical presentation is the protruding form; however, other subtypes are known, such as the atrophic. In 2012 there were only 33 reports of this variant in the literature.

Aim: Cyclo-oxygenase-2 (COX2) plays a prominent role in carcinogenesis. This study addresses the effects of two nutraceutical compounds on the expression of COX2 and tumor-associated inflammation in human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV16)-transgenic mice.

Materials And Methods: Six-week-old FVB/n mice were supplemented with rutin or curcumin for 24 weeks: HPV16 no treatment, n=12; HPV16 no treatment, n=13; HPV16 rutin, n=12; HPV16 curcumin, n=13.

HPV16 induces a wasting syndrome in transgenic mice: Amelioration by dietary polyphenols via NF-κB inhibition.

Cancer patients often show a wasting syndrome for which there are little therapeutic options. Dietary polyphenols have been proposed for treating this syndrome, but their usefulness in cases associated with human papillomavirus (HPV)-induced cancers is unknown. We characterized HPV16-transgenic mice as a model of cancer cachexia and tested the efficacy of long-term oral supplementation with polyphenols curcumin and rutin.

Volaemic status and dyspepsia in end-stage renal disease patients.

Aim: Studies in animals show a relationship between extracellular volume and gastrointestinal motility. End-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients present fluid overload and frequent dyspeptic symptoms. We looked for an association between volaemic status and dyspepsia among ESRD patients undergoing haemodialysis (HD).
