Objective: We adapted a mobile TB screening unit to create an integrated screening program for noncommunicable diseases and TB, using community health worker (CHW) navigators to support linkage to care. We piloted the model in underserved communities of Lima, Peru, evaluating its feasibility, acceptability, and ability to continue supporting TB case detection.

Design: The program provided screening for TB, hypertension, diabetes, and depression and was rebranded to avoid TB-associated stigma.

Article Synopsis
  • Palatine tonsils act as primary defenders in our immune system against diseases we inhale or ingest, and researchers created a detailed map of the human tonsil, analyzing over 556,000 cells using various techniques.
  • They discovered 121 distinct cell types, traced their development, and outlined how different immune functions are organized within the tonsils.
  • The study's findings included identifying specific cell subtypes and regulatory factors, validating their results with age-related changes, and connecting the findings to understanding certain lymphomas, enhancing our knowledge of immune responses.

Mounting evidence supports the role of the endocannabinoid system in neurophysiology, including blood-brain barrier (BBB) function. Recent work has demonstrated that activation of endocannabinoid receptors can mitigate insults to the BBB during neurological disorders like traumatic brain injury, cortical spreading depression, and stroke. As alterations to the BBB are associated with worsening clinical outcomes in these conditions, studies herein sought to examine the impact of endocannabinoid depletion on BBB integrity.

Introduction: The high prevalence and severe symptoms of migraines in humans emphasizes the need to identify underlying mechanisms that can be targeted for therapeutic benefit. Clinical Endocannabinoid Deficiency (CED) posits that reduced endocannabinoid tone may contribute to migraine development and other neuropathic pain conditions. While strategies that increase levels of the endocannabinoid n-arachidonoylethanolamide have been tested, few studies have investigated targeting the levels of the more abundant endocannabinoid, 2-arachidonoylgycerol, as an effective migraine intervention.

Background: Rapid IgM/IgG antibody tests were largely used in lieu of RT-PCR tests as part of COVID-19 public health response activities in Lima, Peru. To assess their utility, we explored the relationship between the time since onset of several COVID-19-related symptoms and the sensitivity of a rapid combined IgM/IgG antibody test.

Methods: We collected data from a community sample of individuals (n = 492) who received concurrent RT-PCR and rapid IgM/IgG antibody testing between May 2020 and March 2021.
