Classifying chronic pain using ICD-11 and questionnaires-reported characteristics in Japanese patients with chronic pain.

Introduction: The new ICD-11 code for chronic pain indicates a direction to divide chronic pain into two categories: chronic secondary pain, which has a clear underlying disease, and chronic primary pain, which is associated with significant emotional distress or functional disability and cannot be explained by another chronic condition. Until now, epidemiological studies have been hampered by the lack of a clear classification, but we believe that this new code system will provide a new perspective on the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain, and we have begun work on this code system.

Methods: We studied 2,360 patients at Aichi Medical University, the largest pain center in Japan, and asked them to answer questionnaires on pain severity (NRS), pain-related functional impairment (PDAS, Locomo25), quality of life (EQ-5D), and psychological state and pain cognition (HADS, PCS, PSEQ, AIS) while their attending physicians were giving diagnoses according to ICD-11 and the results of the study were used to determine the coding of pain severity.

Comparison of Echo-Planar Imaging and Compressed Sensing in the Estimation of Flow Metrics from Aortic 4D Flow MR Imaging: A Healthy Volunteer Study.

Purpose: Prolonged scanning of time-resolved 3D phase-contrast MRI (4D flow MRI) limits its routine use in clinical practice. An echo-planar imaging (EPI)-based sequence and compressed sensing can reduce the scan duration. We aimed to determine the impact of EPI for 4D flow MRI on the scan duration, image quality, and quantitative flow metrics.

Elucidating polymorphs of crystal structures by intensity-based hierarchical clustering analysis of multiple diffraction data sets.

In macromolecular structure determination using X-ray diffraction from multiple crystals, the presence of different structures (structural polymorphs) necessitates the classification of the diffraction data for appropriate structural analysis. Hierarchical clustering analysis (HCA) is a promising technique that has so far been used to extract isomorphous data, mainly for single-structure determination. Although in principle the use of HCA can be extended to detect polymorphs, the absence of a reference to define the threshold used to group the isomorphous data sets (the `isomorphic threshold') poses a challenge.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging-negative Acute Inflammatory Myelopathy following Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection.

A 55-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital because of gait disturbance and urinary retention that acutely emerged 1 week after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. Acute inflammatory myelopathy was clinically suspected, based on bilateral lower-limb weakness with an extensor plantar response and an elevated immunoglobulin G level in the cerebrospinal fluid. Whole-spine magnetic resonance imaging findings were normal.
