Facile one-pot synthesis of novel -benzimidazolyl-α-arylnitrones catalyzed by salts of transition metals.

A novel series of -benzimidazol-2-yl-α-aryl nitrones 3a-j is synthesized simple one-pot condensation/oxidation of 2-aminobenzimidazole, an aromatic aldehyde and -chloro perbenzoic acid (-CPBA) as an effective oxidant using Mn(NO)·6HO as an efficient catalyst at room temperature. All synthesized -benzimidazolyl nitrones were identified using FTIR, NMR and mass spectroscopy. Also, stability energy theory calculations were performed and H NMR computational spectra were generated for the isomeric structures of 3a; the results show that the stability order is oxaziridine (4) followed by the nitrones 3a and 3a .

Synthesis, spectroscopic characterization and DFT calculations of β-O-4 type lignin model compounds.

β-O-4 type lignin model compounds with the title of Erythro-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-1,3-propanediol and Erythro-2-(2-methoxyphenoxy)-1-(4-Hydroxy-3,5-dimethoxyphenyl)-1,3-propanediol were synthesised and some modifications and improvements on them were introduced. These compounds were characterized by IR, Mass and NMR spectroscopy. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were performed for the title compounds using the standard 6-31G(*) basis set.

Photodegradation of acidolysis lignin from BCMP.

A mild acidic dioxane extraction method was employed to isolate lignin from hardwood bleached chemimechanical pulp (BCMP). The isolated lignin was then purified and undergone elemental analysis. To study the photodegradation behavior, the lignin samples were impregnated onto the Whatman filter papers and irradiated with UV light for various periods.
