Clinical spectrum and predictors of severity of dengue among children in 2019 outbreak: a multicenter hospital-based study in Bangladesh.

Background: The mosquito-borne arboviral disease dengue has become a global public health concern. However, very few studies have reported atypical clinical features of dengue among children. Because an understanding of various spectrums of presentation of dengue is necessary for timely diagnosis and management, we aimed to document the typical and atypical clinical features along with predictors of severity among children with dengue during the largest outbreak in Bangladesh in 2019.

Neu-Laxova syndrome: a case report.

Neu-Laxova syndrome (NLS) is a rare lethal syndrome found in both consanguinous and non-consanguinous couple. This is characterized by terrible face with unusual craniofacial appearance with exophthalmos, spectrum of central nervous system malformation, like microcaphaly, hypoplastic cerebellum, cleft lip/palate, ichthyosis and oedema. The diagnosis is made on the basis of clinical parameter.

Comparison between CRP and IL-6 as early markers of neonatal sepsis.

Infection in neonates is difficult to identify solely on the basis of physical findings, because signs are not specific. C reactive protein (CRP) is an acute phase reactant which has been used in diagnosis of bacterial infection in neonates. IL-6 is a proinflammatory cytokine produced by monocytes and macrophages activated by bacterial infection.

Severe systemic hypotension during repair of leaking large meningomyelocele.

We report a case of a 4-month-old male infant with lumbar meningomyelocele. During surgical repair there was severe systemic hypotension. Though the occurrence of intraoperative hypotension during meningomyelocele repair has been suggested, the exact mechanism remains unknown.

Neonatal sepsis-- a global problem: an overview.

Neonatal sepsis is one of the major health problems throughout the world. Every year an estimated 30 million newborns acquire infection and 1-2 million of these die. The present review provides updates regarding neonatal sepsis to help paediatricians to protect the newborn from this deadly problem.
