Article Synopsis
  • The study developed a new dexamethasone mixed micellar system (DEX-MM) using Soluplus and Pluronic F-127 to improve drug delivery to the eyes by creating a chitosan-coated version (DEX-CMM).
  • The DEX-CMM exhibited high stability, uniform particle size, and effective prolonged drug release compared to a standard DEX suspension, enhancing drug absorption and permeation in ocular tissues.
  • Safety tests indicated that DEX-CMM is non-irritating, supporting its potential as an effective method for delivering medication to the eyes.

Imipramine hydrochloride (IMP), a tricyclic antidepressant used for major depression, enuresis, and neuropathic pain, is limited by gastrointestinal complications, low oral bioavailability (44%), and complex dosing requirements. This study aimed to explore a novel non-invasive nasal delivery system using chitosan nanoparticles (Cs NPs) embedded in an in situ gel to address the limitations of oral IMP administration. Cs NPs loaded with IMP were synthesized via ionic gelation and assessed for precision in drug concentration using a validated HPLC method.

This review examines the evolution of lyotropic liquid crystals (LLCs) in ocular drug delivery, focusing on their ability to address the challenges associated with traditional ophthalmic formulations. This study aims to underscore the enhanced bioavailability, prolonged retention, and controlled release properties of LLCs that significantly improve therapeutic outcomes. This review synthesizes data from various studies on both bulk-forming LLCs and liquid crystal nanoparticles (LCNPs).

Background: Recently we reported results of phase 1 pilot clinical trial of 2 consecutive intracavernous (IC) injection of autologous bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) for the first time in the treatment of diabetic patients with erectile dysfunction (DM-ED). In phase 2 of this study our aim is to evaluate long term safety and efficacy of IC injections of BM-MSC on additional eight patients with DM-ED.

Results: Each patient received 2 consecutive IC injections of BM-MSC and evaluated at 1, 3, 6, 12, and 24-month time points.

Background: Nevi is a common benign proliferation of melanin-producing cells. Many triggers can influence their transformation into either benign or malignant, thus it is important to understand these triggers and their incidence across different populations to take adequate prevention. Here, we aim to examine the different etiologies of nevi changes across the Jordanian population.
