A strategy for the photosensitized [2+2]-cycloaddition between styrenyl dihaloboranes and unactivated allylamines to access cyclobutylboronates with control of stereochemistry and regiochemistry is presented. The success of the reaction relies on the temporary coordination between in situ generated dihaloboranes and amines under mild reaction conditions. In addition, cyclobutanes with varying substitution patterns have been prepared using N-heterocycles as directing group.

Here we report a third nitrile biosynthesis strategy featuring the cyanobacterial nitrile synthase AetD. During the biosynthesis of the eagle-killing neurotoxin, aetokthonotoxin, AetD transforms the 2-aminopropionate portion of 5,7-dibromo-L-tryptophan to a nitrile.

In this study, we aimed to evaluate the impact of baseline vitamin D level on the outcome in patients with estimated glomerular filtration rate (EGFR)-mutant advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) who received either gefitinib or gefitinib with chemotherapy (pemetrexed and carboplatin) as first-line therapy in a prospective randomized study.
Methods: This was a post hoc analysis of a phase III randomized trial comparing gefitinib with gefitinib with carboplatin and pemetrexed in patients with advanced NSCLC with activating EGFR mutations in the first-line setting.
Sequence-independent detection of low concentrations of nucleic acids is important for applications in forensics and diagnostics. An emission-based probe for detecting and quantifying DNA and RNA utilizing a water-soluble dicationic tetraphenylethene (TPE) derivativewas developed. The recognition is based on the electrostatic and other non-covalent interactions between the phosphate backbone of nucleic acids and the cationic probe, which cause the restriction of rotation of the aryl units of the probe, ensuing in the enhancement of the fluorescence signal.

Maintaining the integrity of this compartment is paramount to bacterial survival and replication as it protects against certain host surveillance mechanisms that function to eradicate invading pathogens. Preserving this compartment during bacterial replication requires expansion of the vacuole membrane to accommodate the increasing number of bacteria, and yet, how this is accomplished remains largely unknown.
