Gender disparity within the Canadian Urological Association A comparison with the Quebec Urological Association.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to examine gender diversity within the Canadian Urological Association (CUA) and to compare it with the Quebec Urological Association (QUA).

Methods: A retrospective review of women's representation regarding membership, committees' composition, awards, grants, and conferences between 2012 and 2022 was performed. Data and gender were extracted from databases and annual meeting programs provided by the CUA and the QUA.

Salutary effects of a splenic factor in acute hemorrhagic shock.

We have previously described the protective effects of a lipoidal splenic factor (SF) in mice challenged with E coli endotoxin. Whether SF would prove protective in hemorrhagic shock was the subject of the present study. Anesthetized and heparinized Sprague-Dawley rats were bled to a mean arterial pressure of 30 mm Hg.

The effect of hemorrhagic shock on plasma amino acids and tissue energy substrates in the primate.

Levels of plasma amino acids and muscle concentrations of energy substrates and metabolites after shock in the Macaca mulatta Rhesus monkey were investigated. The hemodynamic response to shock is similar to that of previously reported studies of primates in shock. Plasma glucose and ASAT increased significantly, while levels of ALAT and pyruvic acid did not change.
