Aims: To improve quantification of valvular regurgitation, a 3D high-pulse repetition frequency Doppler (3D HPRFD) method was developed for regurgitant volume (RVol) estimation from transthoracic echocardiography (TTE). Although successfully applied and in selected clinical cases, a systematic clinical validation of 3D HPRFD has not been published. Hence, our aims were to investigate (i) feasibility of 3D HPRFD and (ii) correlation between 3D HPRFD and RVol estimates obtained by the 2D proximal isovelocity surface area (PISA) method and cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) in patients with either aortic regurgitation (AR) or mitral regurgitation (MR).

Background: Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) can cause left atrial (LA) and left ventricular (LV) remodelling, which is linked to atrial fibrillation (AF). Whether continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) can reverse LA and LV remodelling in patients with OSA and paroxysmal AF (PAF) has yet to be studied. We assessed the impact of CPAP treatment on LA and LV size and function in patients with OSA and PAF before and after catheter ablation.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how well dobutamine stress echocardiography (DSE) diagnoses obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) in patients with a low to intermediate risk, already indicated by positive coronary CT angiography (CCTA).
  • A total of 104 patients who had symptoms of stable CAD and positive CCTA results were analyzed, comparing DSE results to two standard pressure tests (FFR and iFR) that determine significant artery blockages.
  • The findings showed that DSE has moderate accuracy for identifying significant CAD, with low sensitivity and moderate specificity, suggesting it provides limited additional diagnostic value for these patients compared to FFR and iFR results.

Aims: To improve monitoring of cardiac function during major surgery and intensive care, we have developed a method for fully automatic estimation of mitral annular plane systolic excursion (auto-MAPSE) using deep learning in transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE). The aim of this study was a clinical validation of auto-MAPSE in patients with heart disease.

Methods And Results: TOE recordings were collected from 185 consecutive patients without selection on image quality.

Background: Continuous monitoring of mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) may improve the evaluation of left ventricular (LV) function in postoperative intensive care patients. We aimed to assess the utility of continuous monitoring of LV function using TEE and artificial intelligence (autoMAPSE) in postoperative intensive care patients.

Methods: In this prospective observational study, we monitored 50 postoperative intensive care patients for 120 min immediately after cardiac surgery.
