Endometriosis is a common gynecological disease that affects approximately 10-15% of reproductive-aged women worldwide. This debilitating disease has a negative impact on the quality of life of those affected. Despite this condition being very common, the pathogenesis is not well understood.

Characteristics and Guardianship Status of Children Undergoing Forensic Medical and Psychological Evaluation for Asylum in Miami.

To add to the limited evidence on forensic medical and psychological evaluations of children experiencing distress migration and seeking asylum in the United States, this paper describes the sociodemographic characteristics, nature of human rights violations, and guardianship status of the children served by the Human Rights Clinic of Miami from 2010 to 2021. Through a retrospective study of affidavits, we identified trends among sociodemographic characteristics and types of human rights violations and used bivariate analysis to determine factors associated with guardianship. Children constituted 17% of all evaluations conducted during this period.

Thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP) is a rare but life-threatening hematologic disorder characterized by thrombocytopenia, microangiopathic hemolytic anemia, neurologic symptoms, renal impairment, and fever. The etiology of TTP often involves a severe deficiency in ADAMTS13 activity, resulting in the accumulation of ultra-large von Willebrand factor multimers and subsequent microvascular thrombosis. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease that can affect multiple organ systems, and although the initial presentation of SLE with TTP is rare, it necessitates a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic approach.

The prevalence of major depressive disorder and anxiety disorders among asylum seekers in South Florida.

The rapidly growing population of asylum seekers in the United States often seeks asylum following persecution and severe traumatic events. Asylum evaluations play an influential role in the process by objectively documenting human rights abuses. The purpose of this study was to describe the prevalence of major depressive disorder (MDD) and anxiety disorders among asylum seekers and analyze differences in the severity of disease by time and sub-group.

Placental Metabolomics of Fetal Growth Restriction.

Fetal growth restriction is an obstetrical pathological condition that causes high neonatal mortality and morbidity. The mechanisms of its onset are not completely understood. Metabolites were extracted from 493 placentas from non-complicated pregnancies in Hamilton Country, TN (USA), and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
