TeleHelp Ukraine: A distributed international telemedicine response to the ongoing war.

Background: Humanitarian crises frequently garner solidarity and robust volunteer recruitment among health care communities. However, a common obstacle is matching providers to those in need across geographic and other barriers. We examined the application of a decentralised governance strategy in establishing an emergency telemedicine response, TeleHelp Ukraine (THU).

Early Neurosurgical Education in the Era of Distance Learning: Incorporating Virtual Reality and Cadaveric Specimen Demonstrations.

Background: Virtual reality (VR) has emerged as a powerful tool for neuroanatomy education of postgraduate medical trainees. However, its use in early training in neurosurgery, such as of undergraduate, medical, and physician assistant students, has not been evaluated. We also have limited insight into how VR may be integrated with traditional teaching methods.

Neuronal-Activity Dependent Mechanisms of Small Cell Lung Cancer Progression.

Neural activity is increasingly recognized as a critical regulator of cancer growth. In the brain, neuronal activity robustly influences glioma growth both through paracrine mechanisms and through electrochemical integration of malignant cells into neural circuitry via neuron-to-glioma synapses, while perisynaptic neurotransmitter signaling drives breast cancer brain metastasis growth. Outside of the CNS, innervation of tumors such as prostate, breast, pancreatic and gastrointestinal cancers by peripheral nerves similarly regulates cancer progression.

Mini-review: Aplastic myelin following chemotherapy.

The contribution of chemotherapy to improved outcomes for cancer patients is unquestionable. Yet as its applications broaden, so do the concerns for the long-term implications of chemotherapy on the health of cancer survivors, with chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment as a cause for particular urgency. In this mini review, we explore myelin aplasticity following chemotherapy, discussing the role of myelin plasticity in healthy cognition and failure of myelin plasticity chiefly due microenvironmental aberrations in chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment.

Safety and preliminary efficacy of the Gam-COVID-Vac vaccine and outcomes of SARS-CoV-2 infection in Russian patients with genitourinary malignancies.

Background: To our knowledge, there is no clinical data pertaining to COVID-19 outcomes and safety of COVID-19 vaccination in Russian patients with genitourinary (GU) malignancies. Aim of our analysis was to describe the characteristics of the COVID-19 infection course as well as preliminary safety and efficacy of Gam-COVID-Vac vaccine in patients with active GU malignancies.

Methods: Patients were retrospectively identified at nine cancer centers in different regions.
