A sesquiterpenic lactone leucomyzin possessing the anti-inflammatory activity significantly reduces the extensiveness of atherosclerotic lesions of the aortas of the rabbits receiving dietary cholesterol. The drug prevents an increase of permeability of the aorta and microvessels under the influence of cholesterol, bradykinin, ovalbumin and histamine. In addition to the angioprotective action, leucomyzin possesses the hypolipidemic activity in rats with experimental hyperlipidemias and (after prolonged administration) in rabbits with cholesterol atherosclerosis.
