Article Synopsis
  • * Three drying techniques (sun drying, oven drying, and freeze drying) were tested, showing that dried E. cottonii significantly decreased methane production while improving dry matter (DM) and organic matter (OM) degradability.
  • * All three drying methods had similar effects on methane reduction, but freeze drying proved to be the most effective method without negatively affecting rumen bacterial activities or total volatile fatty acid (VFA) production.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the potential of using rice straw, along with protein extracted from leaves, as livestock feed to improve nutrition and digestibility.
  • Distilled water was found to be more effective than chemical solvents like 0.1 N NaOH for extracting protein from leaves, yielding higher protein and amino acid content.
  • Incorporating this distilled water-extracted protein into low-quality rice straw diets resulted in better fermentation and digestibility, suggesting a viable method to enhance livestock nutrition.

Management of peatlands with an integrated system of maize and cattle is an alternative to circular agriculture in peatland areas that can increase economic growth in rural areas which is environmentally friendly and sustainable (green economy). This study aims to obtain a circular agriculture model with zero waste management based on the integration of maize and cattle which is environmentally friendly and sustainable in peatland areas, in addition to increasing the added value and farmers' income. This circular agriculture model utilizes site-specific technological innovations and local resources that can restore sustainability in the peatland.
