Short-Term Outcomes Following Operative Repair of the Burst Abdomen: A Retrospective Review of Different Techniques.

Introduction: Abdominal wall closure in postoperative burst abdomen remains challenging. Different techniques vary between definitive closure and temporary closure. The aim of this study was to examine the short-term outcomes for different closure techniques.

Associations between the Geriatric-8 and 4-meter gait speed test and subsequent delivery of adjuvant chemotherapy in older patients with colon cancer.

Objectives: Feasible screening methods are important to identify older patients who might benefit from adjuvant chemotherapy. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations between the outcomes of screening for frailty with the Geriatric-8 questionnaire (G8) and the 4-meter gait speed test (4MGST) and subsequent delivery of adjuvant chemotherapy and treatment tolerance in older patients with colon cancer.

Material And Methods: This retrospective multicentre study included all patients aged ≥70 with primary colon carcinoma who underwent elective surgery between May 2016 and December 2018 and for whom adjuvant chemotherapy was indicated.

Treatment of dorsally dislocated distal radius fractures with individualized 3D printed bracing: an exploratory study.

Background: The aim of this work was to develop a three-dimensionally (3D) printed brace for the acute treatment of dorsally dislocated and correctly reduced distal radius fractures (DRF). The hypothesis was that a brace shaped to the mirror image of the contralateral (non-fractured) wrist will have an optimal anatomical fit, resulting in improved comfort and lower rates of secondary fracture displacement.

Method: Validation: the circumference of both wrists and comfort of the brace were studied in healthy volunteers and effectiveness of the brace was evaluated in an ex vivo fracture model.

Intrapelvic Retroperitoneal Synovial Sarcoma in a 15-Year-Old Adolescent Girl: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Synovial sarcomas are a rare subtype of soft tissue sarcomas mostly located in the lower extremities. The authors report a case of synovial sarcoma in a 15-year-old adolescent girl with several unusual features including age, intrapelvic retroperitoneal location of the primary tumor, and presentation with right abdominal tenderness and compression of the iliac vessels with thrombosis of the right iliac and femoral vein.
