Purpose: To characterize evolution of deferoxamine-related retinal toxicity in a patient exposed to supratherapeutic doses of deferoxamine and progression despite dose reduction and cessation.

Methods: Observational clinical case Report.

Results: A 59-year-old female with history of beta thalassemia requiring biweekly blood transfusions developed peripheral visual field loss and nyctalopia after taking supratherapeutic dosage of deferoxamine.

: Cervical cancer primarily disseminates through the lymphatic system, with the metastatic involvement of pelvic and para-aortic lymph nodes significantly impacting prognosis and treatment decisions. Sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping is critical in guiding surgical management. However, resource-limited settings often lack advanced detection tools like indocyanine green (ICG).

Objectives: To understand variables associated with support for community water fluoridation among ordinary citizens during periods of heightened issue salience, with a particular focus on how support varies on the basis of demographic characteristics, attitudes toward public health science, and political variables such as ideology, populism, and issue salience.

Methods: Statistical analysis of individual-level data from a large-scale survey of eligible voters in the City of Calgary, Alberta in 2021, collected at the time of a community water fluoridation plebiscite.

Results: Survey data (N = 1130) reveal substantively important and statistically significant relationships with fluoridation support in each of our three analysis categories (demographics, public health expertise, and politics).

Background/objectives: Tamoxifen has well-known retinal toxicity, but the epidemiology of this toxicity is poorly defined. This study aims to 1) evaluate the prevalence of tamoxifen retinopathy in a major northeastern metropolitan area based on multimodal retinal imaging and 2) determine whether the additional peripheral retina captured in ultra-widefield (UWF) imaging aids in the diagnosis of tamoxifen retinopathy.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study examined female patients initiated on tamoxifen for at least 12 months prior to their first retinal exam.

Article Synopsis
  • * In this condition, retinal pigment epithelial cells lose their anchor to a supportive membrane, become more mobile, and migrate to the retinal surface, which can worsen vision.
  • * Research indicates that annexin A2 plays a key role in this process by aiding the movement of these retinal cells when stimulated by specific inflammatory proteins, and targeting these proteins in mice may help reduce the condition's progression.
