Amniotic membrane transplantation in treatment of persistent corneal ulceration after severe chemical and thermal eye injuries.

Purpose: To analyze results of amniotic membrane transplantation (AMT) in treatment of corneal ulceration after severe chemical and thermal injuries.

Methods: Analysis of 55 AMT in 53 patients (53 eyes) with corneal ulceration and limbal deficiency 180-360° of the limbus after grade 4-6 (Dua classification, 2001) chemical and thermal injuries was performed. Mean terms of the operation were 46.

[The use of Charcot's douche with different temperature regimes in the training process of the athletes].

Thirty six male athletes at the age from 17 to 25 years (masters and candidate masters of sports) were divided into two groups as follows: group 1 (fencing, n=20) and group 2 (badminton, n=16). The athletes used Charcot's douche with a water temperature either 20 degrees C or 38-40 degrees C after each evening training session. Their functional conditions were estimated based on the results of the measurements of the muscular tone and tensodynamometry.

[The influence of various technologies of sports massage on biochemical parameters of the blood].

Different variants of sports massage were tested on 8 fencers (masters and candidate masters of sports) aged between 18 and 22 years. Variant 1 was stimulating massage with the predominant impact on the selected groups of muscles while variant II included relaxation massage with the selective impact on the connective-tissue structures. Blood glucose, cortisol, thyroxin, triiodo-thyronine levels and concentrations of lactic, uric, and non-esterified fatty acids were measured before and after the massage.

[Experimental validation of the use of RNA hydrolysate (ENKAD) in chemical burns of the cornea].

The influence of ENKAD on the course of a severe alkaline burn of the cornea was studied in 158 rabbits (316 eyes). Cytochemically, regularity in correlations of separate amino acids: cystin, cysteine, arginine and glutaminic acid in cellular proteins of the intact cornea was established and their disorder in dynamics of the burn process is shown. Comparative assessment of therapeutic effectiveness of ultrasound, applications, subconjunctival injections and phonophoresis of ENKAD has shown that a combined usage of ultrasound and ENKAD has the most expressed positive action on the course of the burn process of the corneal burn, such as acceleration of corneal epithelialization that accomplished, on the average, by the 9.

[Phonophoresis of the proteolytic enzymes lekozim or kollalizin in the combined therapy of eye burns].

A two-stage phonophoresis of proteolytic enzymes of lecozim or collalysine was used in a complex treatment of severe eye burns. The main group of patients consisted of 20 patients (23 eyes) treated by lecozim phonophoresis and 6 patients (6 eyes)--by collalysine phonophoresis. The control group consisted of 23 patients (25 eyes) treated by a complex treatment without phonophoresis of proteolytic enzymes.
