Thyroidectomy has been post-operatively managed by hormone replacement therapy in order to satisfy the reference ranges of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) and thyroxine (T4) levels. While medication and standardized reference ranges have proven to be effective, many patients continue to report unintentional weight gain despite adequate amounts of treatment and levels of TSH and T4. Physicians, over the years, have become complacent to these "normal" ranges, and have ignored the metabolic consequences that are affecting thyroidectomy patients.

This systematic review investigates the potential of bergamot, a polyphenol-rich citrus fruit, in improving osteosarcopenic obesity, a condition characterized by the simultaneous presence of osteoporosis, obesity, and sarcopenia. Bergamot extracts have been suggested to possess several pharmacological properties, including anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which could be useful in the management of age-related diseases and neuromuscular health. The review highlights the promising effects of bergamot extracts on skeletal muscle mass and function, particularly in the context of obesity, metabolic syndrome, osteosarcopenic obesity, and osteoporosis.

The standard way to evaluate the solid surface energy using probe liquids relies on contact angle measurements. The measured contact angles rely on visible means and are different from their nanoscopic thermodynamic values. This compromises the surface-energy predictions so much that the surface energy-values can be hundreds of percentages higher than expected based on comparisons with different methods as reported in several studies.

Article Synopsis
  • The cancer community is increasingly recognizing the significance of extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) in cancer growth and treatment resistance, but a challenge is the limited availability of cancer model systems that actually express ecDNA.
  • To address this, researchers created CytoCellDB, a new resource that identifies and provides detailed information on cancer cell lines expressing ecDNA, increasing the number of known ecDNA-expressing lines significantly.
  • CytoCellDB aims to enhance research in cytogenomics and inform therapeutic strategies to tackle drug resistance associated with ecDNA in cancer treatments.

Aim: To evaluate the effects of tramadol on inflammation by measuring NLRP1 and IL-1 beta (IL-1β) levels in an experimental neuropathic pain model.

Material And Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups: control, chronic constriction injury (CCI), and CCI + tramadol. Neuropathic pain was assessed using mechanical allodynia, thermal hyperalgesia, and cold allodynia.
