Novel Human Umbilical Di-Chimeric (HUDC) cell therapy for transplantation without life-long immunosuppression.

Background: Cell-based therapies are promising for tolerance induction in bone marrow (BM), solid organs, and vascularized composite allotransplantation (VCA). The toxicity of bone marrow transplantation (BMT) protocols precludes this approach from routine clinical applications. To address this problem, we developed a new therapy of Human Umbilical Di-Chimeric (HUDC) cells for tolerance induction in transplantation.

Dynamic CT Study on the Morphology and the Motor Ability of Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis.

Objective: To investigate the morphological changes and motor functions of the larynx in unilateral vocal fold paralysis by using dynamic three-dimensional CT, and to explore the differences between vocal fold paralysis with different nerves involved.

Methods: Twenty-five patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis and 10 healthy subjects were selected as the paralytic group and the normal group, respectively. Ten dynamic sequence images of laryngeal movement from inhalation to phonation were reviewed, and the glottic morphology at the coronal position, the minimum glottic area at the horizontal position, and the overall activity of the two groups were compared.

Increased F-FDG Uptake in the Posterior Region of Contralateral Vocal Folds in Beagle Dogs With Unilateral Vocal Fold Immobility Disorders.

Objective: To explore the glycolytic metabolism of contralateral vocal fold compensation by examining the glycolytic metabolism of the posterior region of vocal folds in beagles with unilateral vocal fold immobility disorders and its correlation with acoustic parameters.

Study Design: Prospective animal study.

Setting: Department of Voice METHODS: Ten adult beagles were divided randomly into three groups: a unilateral cricoarytenoid joint dislocation (UCAJD) group (n = 4), a unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) group (n = 4), and a control group (n = 2).

Quality of Life in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease Undergoing Hemodialysis.

End-stage renal disease and hemodialysis therapy cause a number of changes, not only somatic but also psychosocial, including the patient's perception and assessment of their quality of life. The literature describes predispositions to pathologies in the oral mucosa, craniofacial bones, teeth, and surrounding tissues in hemodialysis patients. This study aimed to determine the quality of life of hemodialysis patients in comparison with healthy subjects.

The Evaluation of the Periodontal Status of Hemodialysis Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease.
