[Reflected wave and isolated systolic hypertension: problems of pathogenesis and therapy].

The value of reflected (tidal) wave amplitude in the pathogenesis of isolated systolic hypertension (ISH) is discussed and main characteristics of elastic properties of arteries (compliance, distensibility, rigidity, pulse wave velocity, and amplitude of reflected wave) are considered. In ISH systolic and pulse blood pressures are associated with augmentation of the reflected wave amplitude. Increased pulse wave velocity characteristic of ISH leads to displacement of reflected wave from diastole to systole.

[Fatal and nonfatal cardiovascular complications in patients with essential hypertension (hypertensive disease) during follow-up for many years].

Fatal and nonfatal complications (stroke, myocardial infarction, chronic heart failure, sudden coronary death, chronic renal insufficiency) were registered during long term follow-up of 529 patients with hypertensive disease and results were analyzed retrospectively. Duration of ambulatory treatment in two thirds of patients exceeded 15 years. There were 243 deaths in 1993-1999.

[Assessment of criteria for forming follow-up groups of patients at high risk for ulcerogenesis in ambulatory care].

A method of clinico-laboratory examinations to reveal persons at high risk for the development of duodenal ulcer, suitable for wide use during prophylactic medical screenings was devised. The rise of the levels of serum pepsinogen-I, pepsin and hexosamines in the urine, being of prognostic importance as applicable to ulcerogenesis, was the most significant indicator in screening risk group patients. During 3 to 5 years of the screened group follow-up and carrying out health measures, peptic ulcer was ascertained in 8.

[Evaluation of the therapeutic effect of hyperbaric oxygenation and anginin in peptic ulcer].

Hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) and pyridinolcarbamat were mainly applied in the treatment of elderly patients with peptic ulcer attended by coronary heart disease and atherosclerosis. To evaluate the condition of intracellular regulators after the treatment, a study was made of the time-course of changes in the content of cyclic nucleotides in blood plasma and gastric mucosa. The use of HBO in the treatment of peptic ulcer raised the efficacy of the multimodality therapy and accelerated the epithelization of erosive and ulcerative defects.
